My two favorite gifts

Quilter’s Academy: Masters Year Vol. 5: A Skill Building Course in Quiltmaking

Harriett Hargrave’s Quilters Academy – the fifth in a series of excellent skill building course books.   The book focuses on creating, designing and piecing your own medallion masterpiece  – as an avid collector of antique quilts, the medallion quilt features very high in my list of all time greats.

Red and White Quilts: Infinite Variety: Presented by the American Folk Arts Museum

– this is a simply stunning catalogue by the American Folk Arts Museum of what must be the greatest collection of Red and White quilts.   Very little written information but a fantastic coffee table book which I cannot put down!  There are over 650 quilts photographed – simply stunning!

Did you know Killhope Lead Mining Museum is home to the oldest surviving North Country example of a traditional strippy quilt.  Made by Hannah Peart before she emigrated to America in 1854.  A collection of letters document the quilts journey  across the water and back!
